Deputy Sam Brownlee - End of Watch 11-23-2010
Deputy Sam Brownlee was 43 years old when he died in the line of duty on November 23, 2010.
Deputy Brownlee was fatally wounded after a struggle with a suspect wanted on assault and stolen motor vehicle charges out of Morgan County, Colorado. The suspect died during the incident.
Sam was born in Denver and raised in Greeley where he graduated from high school. After completing the police academy he worked for Gilcrest and Ault Police Departments before joining the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. In 2006 Sam received a lifesaving award; he was a Field Training Officer, and an instructor in the use of Taser and firearms. Survivors include his wife, Heather, two step children and two sons.
Deputy Brownlee became the first Weld County Sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty in 70 years.
A memorial fund has been set up at Chase Bank in Greeley. Donations can be made to the account number 2973017086.
