About:
The Nurse-Family Partnership program is a no cost, 2 1/2 year program that serves qualified low income, first time mothers. Enrollment occurs during pregnancy and continues until the child is 2 years old.
Specially trained registered nurses visit the clients in their homes to help them develop healthy nutritional habits, positive relationships, and safe living environments. Clients are encouraged to finish school and to set goals toward achieving financial independence.
Parenting skills and normal childhood growth and development are taught through handouts, DVDs and hands on demonstrations.
Based on 30 years of evidenced based research and follow up, the nationally recognized NFP program has shown many positive effects on moms who enroll in the program. Extensive documentation has shown that clients have improved prenatal health, fewer subsequent pregnancies, and increased maternal employment.
The client's children have shown improved readiness for school, an increased high school graduation rate, and decreased involvement in the judicial system.
