What is the Healthy Baby Campaign?
The Healthy Baby Campaign is a free educational program for pregnant women of all ages who reside in Weld County and for local organizations who serve pregnant women and their families (including physicians, teachers, social workers, law enforcement agents, faith-based groups, and other businesses).
The goal of the program is to support pregnant women with information and resources throughout their pregnancy. The mission of the Healthy Baby Campaign is to change risk behaviors of women related to weight management, proper nutrition and smoking cessation before, during and after pregnancy in order to reduce the number of low birth weight babies born in Weld County and to improve the health of Weld County families.
Weld County has one of the highest low birth weight (a baby weighing 5 pounds, 8 ounces or less) rates in the state of Colorado which is 7.7%.
Low birth weight babies are not just small babies. They are at an increased risk for severe illness and death and are more likely to have long-term health problems and learning disabilities.
