Q. Do you charge for drop off?
A. We do not charge Weld County Residents for dropping off their HHW. The HHW program is county funded. We do however charge businesses for wastes that they drop off.
Q. Who can use this program?
A. This program is for all Weld County Residents.
Q. Is there a limit to how much HHW I can bring?
A. Usually not, but we do recommend that if you have a pickup load or more of waste to drop off at one of our facilities to call ahead to get further instructions on what to do. Also, please call ahead if you have a 30 or 55 gal drum of waste to drop off. The number to contact us is 970-304-6415 x2226.
Q. How do I need to bring the wastes to the facilities?
A. You can show up at one of our two permanent facilities at anytime during our normal businesses hours. Please have your items in non-leaking containers and have it labeled to the best of your ability.
** Do not mix different types of Household Hazardous Waste together in the same container!! This can be both dangerous to you and to our HHW staff.
** Please keep used oil free of debris and contaminants.
Q. How long will it take me to drop off my HHW?
A. It will usually take as long as it takes the HHW staff to unload the car, and have you fill out a short form. (Average time 5-10 min.)
Q. If the product is completely used do I need to bring the container into one of the permanent facilities?
A. No, if the products are completely used or paint is dry, you can dispose of the container with your regular trash. Please make sure to leave the lids off of the containers to show the trash hauler that the items are completely empty. You may also refer to the disposal instructions on the product or container label.
Q. What happens to my HHW?
A. The goal of the Household Hazardous Waste program is to reduce the amount of hazardous materials entering our county landfills. The HHW program tries to choose the most environmental friendly disposal option available based on type of disposal versus cost of disposal. The Weld County HHW program wants to assure its residents that we do try to recycle or reuse as many items as possible.
The HHW program has different contractors for different waste streams. The following is a list of the contractors that we normally deal with:
- Andersons Sales and Salvage
- CSI (Gallegos Sanitation/CSI)
- Interstate Batteries
- MXI
- Thermo Fluids, Inc.
