About
Rules and Regulations for Body Art establishments became part of the Weld County Code Ordinance on October 14, 2002. This ordinance, section 14 of the Weld County Code, contains the regulations for licensing and inspecting Body Art Establishments in Weld County. The ordinance is based on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Rules and Regulations Governing Body Art in the State of Colorado.
The Environmental Health Division instituted annual licensing and inspections of all tattoo and body piercing facilities, including permanent makeup studios not operating under a medical doctor, in January 2003. Inspections are performed annually with follow-up inspections conducted on an as-needed basis.
Investigations are also conducted in response to complaints, reports of suspected disease, construction and remodel activities, fire, etc.
License and Inspections
The purpose of the Rules and Regulations is to ensure safe and sanitary practice, physical environment and equipment, and proper record keeping. If you operate an existing establishment, you can prepare for an inspection by completing the Body Art Self Inspection form.
If you are interested in opening a new or remodeling an existing establishment, complete the Body Art Application Packet and return it to the Environmental Health Services division.
