The focus of the Institution program is on the safe and healthy operation of child care centers, personal care boarding homes, schools, penal institutions and paramedic services.  Regular Inspections to ensure compliance with state and county regulations are a major part of the program. The department also investigates complaints and provides information resources to improve the facilities operation.

Child Care Centers:

Licenced / Inspected Child Care centers Child Care Centers in Weld County are inspected annually or bi-annually to ensure compliance with the Rules and Regulations Governing the Sanitation of Child Care Centers in the State of Colorado.

Paramedic Services:

Paramedic services that operate ambulances in Weld County are required to be licensed and inspected annually by Weld County Code, Chapter 7 Section 7-2-10. Personal Care Boarding Homes:

NOTICE:  Ordinance 2012-2 of the Weld County Code has been repealed by the Weld County Commissioners.  Effective February 27, 2012, Personal Care Boarding Homes with one to two adults are no longer required to be licensed or inspected by the Weld County Environmental Health Services.  Personal Care Boarding Homes with three or more adults are licensed through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Health Facilities Division.

Schools:

Licenced / Inspected Schools Environmental Health Services is responsible for the inspection of schools to ensure compliance with the Rules and Regulation Governing Schools in the State of Colorado. Schools with Laboratory facilities and Vocational Classrooms are inspected annually.  Complaints regarding school facilities are also investigated.

On March 2, 2002, amendments to Chapter 8 of the Rules and Regulation Governing Schools in the State of Colorado were adopted. These changes apply mostly to schools with Chemistry laboratory.

Swimming Pools:

Public and Semi-Public Swimming pools in the state of Colorado are regulated and must comply with the State of Colorado Swimming Pool and Mineral Bath Regulations.  The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment: Environmental Health Division is responsible for investigating complaints related to area swimming pools, whirlpools and bathing areas.

Tattoos and Piercings:

The Environmental Health Division instituted annual licensing and inspections of all tattoo and body piercing facilities, including permanent makeup studios not operating under a medical doctor, in January 2003.  Inspections are performed annually with follow-up inspections conducted on an as-needed basis.

Investigations will also be conducted in response to complaints, reports of suspected disease, construction and remodel activities, fire, etc.
