Emergency Medical Technicians in the State of Colorado fall under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment certify entry level competency of all Emergency Medical Technicians for the State of Colorado as well as re-certify existing Emergency Medical Technicians in the State of Colorado.
In Colorado, Emergency Medical Technicians can be certified at one of three different levels of certification:

Emergency Medical Technician: Basic.

Emergency Medical Technician: Intermediate.

Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic.
Certification is based on successful completion of a recognized training course, initial National Registry certification, BLS certification, and an application process that includes a fingerprint based criminal history records check.
Additionally, Emergency Medical Technicians in the State of Colorado must re-certify every three years in order to maintain their certification.
