EXPIRATION OF BUILDING PERMITS
At the time of issuance of a permit, a "Building Permit Expiration" form will be signed which states the date of expiration. This date is based on the valuation of the building permit.
(Article VIII, Section 29-8-40)
30 days prior to the date of expiration, the Building Compliance Officer will send a letter reminding of the expiration date and that an extension may be requested for a fee of $42.00
(Article VIII, Section 29-5-45)
On the date of expiration, a violation will be initiated, the permit expired, and a letter sent to the property owner stating the permit has expired and a new permit must be obtained within 14 days. If no response, the violation is scheduled with the Board of County Commissioners at the next violation hearing.
VIOLATION PROCEDURES
Complete the Zoning and/or Building Complaint Form.
- The Building Compliance Officer will initiate a violation so there is a record of the complaint. The Building Compliance Officer will obtain all of the following information:
- Property research of the parcel
- Address of property owner
- Tax records
- Phone Number of the property owner
- Other information as deemed necessary
- The above information is vital if the complaint results in an abatement violation or if there is an absentee property owner.
- The file will be given to the Building Official or Assistant Building Official and a site visit will be scheduled no later than the following day.
- Inspectors will visit the property, taking pictures and gathering information so as to determine the violation. That information will be entered on the complaint form.
- Following the site visit, either the Building Official or Assistant Building Official will determine if the complaint is valid and the exact violation.
- The Building Compliance Officer will then follow the procedure for violations. The exception will be any complaint that results in a Dangerous Building Violation which will be referred to the Building Official.
Violation status will be determined within 3 days of the site visit so as to ensure that complaints are handled in a timely manner.
