The Stormwater and Floodplain Management group in the Public Works Department is responsible for safe guarding the public welfare through the effective collection, conveyance, and storage of storm water runoff in a non-damaging and non-life threatening manner.
Stormwater Management
Current activities include evaluating stormwater drainage issues, recommending studies and solutions for drainage problems, and reviewing new development construction plans
for compliance with engineering
standards. Additional duties include protection of the overall water quality of the County’s water resources and ensuring compliance with all applicable water quality regulations related to storm water runoff, including the Clean Water Act Storm water Phase II (MS4) Program. Weld County has adopted the Urban Drainage Stormwater Criteria with an addendum to address Weld County specific issues.
Floodplain Management
Floodplain management involves use of policies and floodpla
in regulations to protect the health and safety of citizens and reduce the risk of property damage in flood-prone areas. The effort also includes providing the public with information and promoting awareness of flooding hazards and ensuring compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements.
Future Activities
Future activities include development of regional drainage master plans, Capital Improvement Projects, and coordination of watershed water quality and habitat enhancement. Weld County has
adopted the Urban Drainage Criteria Manual with a Weld County-specific Addendum .
