Weld County Paramedic Services (W.C.P.S.) was formed on September 16, 1974 when the Greeley Ambulance Company (a privately owned company) failed financially. Pre-hospital emergency medical care was considered an essential service and a joint agreement between
Weld County and the City of Greeley provided tax support during the
transition to a Weld County Department.

Paramedic Advanced Life
Support Services were added on July 1, 1977. Ft. Lupton
operations
began on February 1, 1981.
In January 1986 the department was converted by the Board of County
Commissioners to an enterprise fund supported by fees to the people who used
the service.
Emergency Medical Training
Centers throughout Weld County and the region utilize the clinical working environment of the W.C.P.S. Rider Program.
Participating training centers send their Emergency Medical Technician Basics,
Intermediates and Paramedics students to W.C.P.S. to study and learn from
the Field Instructors at W.C.P.S.. Support is also provided to
all of the fire department first responders of Weld County who, in addition
to the educational opportunities, receive their expendable medical supplies
from W.C.P.S. at no cost. Informational and
educational programs are available to individuals, organizations and the
public who are interested in learning about the pre-hospital / public safety

Weld
County Regional Communications Center provides dispatch services using a tiered response of fire department
first responders, ground ambulance
and medical helicopter services. Resource deployment is determined
using a modified System Status Management Model, Medical Priority Dispatch
with ProQA™.
This process combined with mutual aid agreements with neighboring providers, assure
a more timely response to the outlying
areas for the citizens and visitors of Weld County.
