Weld County fire danger is low!
 
Weld County Sheriff Ed Jordan on Wednesday exempted charcoal grilling in Greeley city parks from a Gov. Bill Owens executive order to ban open burning.  Read the sheriff's order.

 Governor bans all open burning in Colorado!

"Open burning" is defined as any outdoor fire, including but not limited to campfires, warming fires, charcoal grill fires, and the use of any fireworks

"Open burning" does not include:

a) gas or charcoal grills located at private residences;

b) fireplaces within buildings;

c) professional commercial fireworks displays;

d) prescribed burning ditches for irrigate pastures and croplands
 

  Governor bans the sale and use of Fireworks in Colorado!
By executive order the governor has banned open burning and the sale and use of fireworks throughout Colorado.  For more information see the state's website.

Additional Precautions

  • Grass fires create a danger to everyone

  • Cigarettes can cause a fire - Do not throw from vehicles

  • Minimize driving across dry grass lands

Citizens are urged to use great caution in the rural areas of the county and continue to watch the conditions of dryness. Persons who cause to be burned or damage any property belonging to another over $100 can be charged with a class 4 felony.
